Wix SEO: Tips for Ranking on a Wix Site
August 31, 2026
Wix earned a reputation for weak SEO years ago, largely deserved at the time. The platform has since added far more control over technical SEO fundamentals, so most SEO limitations on a Wix site today come down to configuration, not a hard platform limit. Business owners who researched website builders years ago and settled on a different platform because of Wix's old reputation are often working from information that's simply out of date now.
What to configure
- Use Wix's SEO settings panel to set titles, meta descriptions, and URL slugs per page
- Enable Wix's built-in mobile optimization and check that pages actually render well on mobile
- Add alt text to every image
- Use Wix's structured data tools where relevant, especially for local businesses
- Run Wix's own SEO checklist tool (found in the dashboard) to catch anything missed on a per-page basis
What still requires effort
Wix's SEO tools remove friction, but they don't replace strategy. Page speed can still suffer with heavy design elements, and content quality, the actual writing and structure, still determines most of the outcome. A well-configured Wix site with strong content can rank just as well as one built on any other platform, the platform itself is rarely the limiting factor once the basics are actually turned on.
A common oversight
Many Wix sites still have their SEO settings sitting at whatever was auto-generated when the page was first created, meaning titles like 'Home' or 'Untitled Page' can end up live in search results. It's worth going through every page in the site editor's SEO panel individually, since Wix doesn't always prompt for this the way it does for other setup steps, and a generic title in search results can quietly cost clicks even when the ranking itself is decent.
Speed and design elements
Wix's drag-and-drop editor makes it easy to add animations, background videos, and heavy image galleries, all of which can slow a page down if used without restraint. Since page speed affects both rankings and how many visitors actually stick around, it's worth testing key pages with a free page speed tool after any major design change and trimming back any element that's clearly adding weight without adding much value for the visitor.
Getting the most from Wix's local SEO tools
For a local business, Wix's location and business info settings, along with its structured data options, should be filled out completely and kept consistent with the business's Google Business Profile and other directory listings. Mismatched addresses or phone numbers between a Wix site and other listings can quietly undermine local rankings even when everything else on the site is well configured.
